Discovery Village At Naples Wins NAHB Gold Award Earns ‘Best 50+ Assisted Living—On the Boards’

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) 50+ Housing Council has honored Discovery Village At Naples with a 2014 Best of 50+ Housing Award for the new senior-living community that is under construction, announced Discovery Senior Living CEO and co-founder Thomas J. Harrison. Discovery Village At Naples earned the top gold award in the “Best 50+ Assisted Living or Special Needs Community – On the Boards” category. Only two other senior communities in Florida were honored with 2014 awards, both in other categories.

The national program recognizes excellence in building, design, marketing and lifestyles in housing for Baby Boomers and beyond. It also showcases the best in innovation, emerging trends and quality housing for the mature demographic.

The 6.9-acre Discovery Village At Naples senior community with wellness center is located on Sierra Meadows Boulevard, on the corner of Collier Boulevard and Rattlesnake Hammock Road across from Physicians Regional Medical Center-Collier Boulevard. Construction of the 120,000-square-foot building began in September, and is expected to be complete by early 2015.

The community is one of two Discovery Villages by Discovery Senior Living based in Bonita Springs. The first one, Discovery Village At The Forum in Fort Myers, opened in October, and others are planned for several other cities in Florida in the coming years.

Discovery Village At Naples will have a Grande Clubhouse that comprises a three-story wing of 30 apartment homes for supervised independent living; a two- and three-story wing of 60 apartment homes for assisted living; and a one-story wing of 30 suites for memory care. Accommodations include suites, Grande suites, and one- and two-bedroom luxury apartment homes.
Discovery Village At Naples’ building partners include:

  • Community Southern Bank, National Health Investors Inc. and Synovus Bank who made the community possible as their construction financing providers.
  • Wegman Design Group’s design principal, Lori Wegman provided the creative and strategic interior design solutions. Wegman’s professionals have been providing innovative design since its startup in 2001.
  • Architectural Concepts Inc. of Largo, Fla., under the leadership of founding partner Bo Russ, designed the community. The firm provides architectural services to clients throughout the U.S., Bermuda and New Zealand, specializing in senior building design.
  • The Henning Group, under the leadership of Jeff Henning, is the general building construction management firm. The Iowa-based firm is one of the largest general construction companies in North America, and does business internationally.
